Place in this File

This extension will map all or selected place records in the file that have document latitude and longitude locations. The map can be for the entire world or a selected continent. You can click and pin on the map to see place name and a link the the place record in the file. If the place has a URL, the pop-up window will have a link to the URL as well.

Using this Extension

• When you start this extension, a dialog box will appear with options for "Entire World" or individual continents. Make a selection and then choose:
  1. All Places - map all place in the file
  2. Selected Places - map only places currently selected in the front window. To use this option, run the script from the index window after you have selected some subset of place records in the file.
  3. Cancel - quit the extension
• A map will appear in a window that fills your main screen:
  • Each place will have pin. If you hover the mouse over the pin, the place name will appear.
  • If you click on a pin, a small box will open. Click the "Place Record" link to open the place record for that place in your genealogy file. If the place has a documented web site, its URL will appear. Click that link to open that web site in your browser.
  • If you click outside any pin, the latitude and longitude for that location will appear at the bottom of the map.
• The map can only show places for which you have entered a bounding box into its place record. The more latitudes and longitudes you enter for place records the more pins you can get on this map. A summary at the top of the map will tell you how many places had to be skipped because they had no bounding box.
