This extension will map events for identified records related to the current front window and drop a pin at each place. You can hover the mouse over a pin to see the event or click on a pin to see a list of all events found for that location.
This extension will map all events and attributes connected to the records in the front window that have documented latitude and longitude or are connected to a place with a known latitude and longitude. The records mapped depends on the type of window in front:
- Index window
- Map all individuals and families currently displayed in the list of records on the right side of the window (note: it maps all records and not just selected records).
- Family Tree window
- Map all individuals currently displayed in the family tree.
- Browser window for an individual
- Map events for that one individual (note: in the "Default Format" you can click the "Map" button in the Events pane to run this extension and get the same map).
- Browser window for a family record
- Map events for parents and all children in the family (note: in the "Default Format" you can click the "Map" button in the Events pane to run the extension and get the same map).
- Search window
- Map all individuals and families in the current list of search hits (note: it maps all records and not just selected records).
- Other windows
- If you run this script when the front window is not connected to any individuals or families (e.g., a browser window for some other type of record or a previous map window), it will not find anything to map and alert you that nothing was found. Choose a better window and try again.
After running the script, a map will appear with the following features.
- Each place or location with an event will have a pin. Events that have their own latitude an longitude will have a pin at that location. If an event has no latitude and longitude, its pin will be at a pin for its place (if it has a place and that place record has a bounding box).
- If you hover the mouse over the pin, it will display the first event that was found and let you know if more than one event was found.
- If you click on a pin, a box will appear that gives details for all events found that occurred at that same location or place.
- If you click outside any pin, the latitude and longitude for that location will appear at the bottom of the map.
- A summary at the top will tell you the number of events mapped and the number that had to be skipped because hey had no documented place or address with a latitude and longitude. To enhance your map, enter more bounding boxes for places or latitude and longitudes for events.
