Descendants Outline Report
This report generates a concise report of the descendants of the currently selected individual.
When you first select this extension, you are given three options for output of the report (note that these options require GEDitCOM II; when using GEDitCOM the report will appear in a window):
- GEDitCOM II Window - this option will display the report in a GEDCOM II window. You can view it, click links to individuals, print it, or export as an html file. You can email the exported html version to other people who do not have GEDitCOM II (Mac or PC), and they will be able to view the report in any browser software.
- Microsoft Word Document - this option will start the MS Word application and output the report to a new document. You can use MS Word to make additional edits if desired. This option requires that you have MS Word installed on your computer.
- Pages Document - this option will start the Pages application and output the report to a new document. You can use Pages to make additional edits if desired. This output does not support headers and footers due to recent Pages updates reducing to have feeble support for AppleScript. The body of the report is complete.
Options
After selecting output style, you will be asked to provide two options for creating the report:
- Number of Generations: You will be asked for the number of descendant generations to include in the report. Enter the number and click OK.
- Date and Place Omission: When reports might be posted in public places, it is good practice, for privacy reasons, to omit dates and places of living individuals or of those whose records are marked with a "Privacy" setting. You can select from three options:
- Include All - include dates and places for all individuals in the report.
- Omit Living and Privacy - omit dates and places for all living individuals and for all individuals whose record is set with a "Privacy" restriction.
- Omit Privacy - omit dates and places only for individuals whose record is set with a "Privacy" restriction.
For date omission of living individuals, you must have your genealogy data well formatted. This extension assumes any individual with no death information is a living individual. Therefore, for this extension to be correct for individuals who are deceased but have no death information, you have to open those individuals and check the "Has Died" check box so that can be recognized as deceased. Note that you can use the "Miscellaneous Tasks" extension to get help in automatically check the "Has Died" check box of obviously deceased individuals.
The omission of dates for "Privacy" records will only work if you set record restrictions for all individuals for whom you want dates and places omitted.
Report Style
This report's style and content is similar to the "Family Tree as List" report in the Reports menu except by being in a extension, you have the option to edit the extension in GEDitCOM Editor and change the details output for each individual. In addition, the extension lets you output to a Pages or Word document and has an extra option to omit dates and places of selected individuals.
